Delusion

                Everyone thinks as they live. When one of those thoughts settles in the mind for a long time, it becomes that person's worldview and ideology. In the previous column, I shared that standards are needed for thinking. I emphasized that unless Christians think with a biblical worldview and perspective to view and judge the world, they cannot become healthy Christians.

                In this column, I want to talk about "delusion." According to the dictionary, the definition of delusion is "to perceive or think of a thing or fact differently from the actual thing." There must be a clear standard to know whether we are thinking correctly or perceiving or thinking differently when we encounter a thing or fact.

                Today, there are people in the world who live in delusion. They are the people who cherish and dream of communism, socialism, and totalitarianism in their hearts. Looking back at world history, there are common delusions that appear through the lives of those who have lived with these ideologies.

                First, communists and socialists think that humans are inherently good. However, the Bible says that humans are inherently evil. This human sinfulness appears in various forms such as lust for power, selfishness, jealousy, etc. The problem is that they believe that this human sinfulness can be changed through the social system. This is a big delusion. Because human history proves that their thoughts are wrong. Because it has proven that they are abusing the social system to take care of only their own interests. (Look at the communist countries other than China and North Korea!)

                Second, communism and socialism suppress individual freedom. And they prioritize the interests of the nation or society as a whole. However, the Bible emphasizes that God gave human beings free will, and freedom is a gift from God to humans and an important starting point for serving God. Communism and socialism suppress individual freedom and force a uniform way of thinking. Their ideology eventually weakens the vitality of society and becomes a factor that hinders development. (In fact, you can easily see this by looking at the economic situation of China and North Korea.)

                Third, communism and socialism argue that they can build a society where everyone can live well equally. But the Bible says that not everyone can be the same. God has given each person different talents and gifts. Equality means equality of opportunity, not equality of results. The interesting part is that as communism and socialism pursue equality of results, there are too many cases where they ignore individual effort and ability. As a result, it created a result that rather creates inequality. (Even now, unlike their ideology, there is a corrupt class society and a society full of bribery in China and North Korea.)

                Fourth, communist socialism believes in materialism. They treat religion like opium. The Bible emphasizes God's creation and emphasizes that humans were created in God's image and likeness. The Bible says that the purpose of human life is to glorify God and preach the gospel of Jesus on this earth. Also, the standard of moral life is very high. However, by suppressing religious life, communism and socialism fail to satisfy human spiritual desires, and the standard of moral life is very low. So they lie like eating rice. They do not care about the means and methods to achieve their goals. They have no qualms about breaking the law.

                In conclusion, thinking about communism, socialism, and totalitarianism and living on this earth is like living in delusion. Because human nature is evil, these ideologies cannot be achieved and lived on this earth. Because it ignores human dignity, it is impossible to live with these ideologies. There are too many people around us who are living in delusion. It's a shame. Let's not forget that history is proving it!

                The Bible emphasizes that when we serve God and live, our freedom and our thoughts become a healthy life. Christians! Let's go back to the Bible! Let's go back to God so that we can live with a biblical worldview without falling into the delusion that the world gives!

착각

                사람은 누구나 생각하며 산다. 생각하는 것 중 어떤 한 생각이 마음에 오래도록 자리를 잡게 되면, 그 생각은 곧 그 사람의 세계관이 되며, 사상이 된다. 지난번 칼럼에 기고하기를 생각에도 기준이 필요함을 전했다. 그리스도인들이 성경적 가치관과 성경적 관점으로 생각하여 세상을 바라보고 판단하지 않으면 건강한 그리스도인이 될 수 없음을 강조했다.

                이번 칼럼에서는 “착각”에 관해서 말하고자 한다. 국어사전에 보면, 착각의 정의가 이렇게 나온다. “어떤 사물이나 사실을 실제와 다르게 지각하거나 생각하는 것”을 착각이라고 정의한다. 명확한 기준이 있어야 우리가 어떤 사물이나 사실을 대할 때 우리가 잘 생각하고 있는지, 다르게 지각하거나 생각하고 있는지 알 수 있다.

                오늘날 세상 사람 가운데 착각 속에 살고 있는 자들이 있다. 그들은 바로, 공산주의, 사회주의, 그리고 전체주의를 마음에 품고 꿈꾸며 사는 사람들이다. 세계 역사를 되짚어보면, 이런 사상들을 품고 살았던 자들의 삶을 통해 공통으로 나타나는 착각들이 있다.

                첫째로, 공산주의, 사회주의자들은 인간을 본질적으로 선하다고 생각한다. 그러나 성경은 인간이 본질적으로 악하다고 전하고 있다. 이런 인간의 죄성은 권력에 대한 욕망, 이기심, 질투 등 다양한 형태로 나타나고 있다. 문제는 이런 인간의 죄성이 사회 시스템을 통해 변화할 수 있다고 저들은 믿는다. 이것은 큰 착각이다. 왜냐하면, 인류 역사가 저들의 생각이 틀렸음을 증명해 주고 있기 때문이다. 사회 시스템을 악용하여 자신들의 이익만을 챙기고 있음을 증명했기 때문이다. (중국, 북한 외의 공산주의 나라를 보라!)

                두 번째로, 공산주의, 사회주의는 개인의 자유를 억압한다. 그리고 국가나 사회 전체의 이익을 먼저 우선시한다. 그러나 성경은 하나님께서 인간에게 자유 의지를 주셨으며, 자유는 하나님께서 인간에게 주신 선물이며 하나님을 섬기는 중요한 출발점이 됨을 강조하고 있다. 공산주의, 사회주의는 개인의 자유를 억압하고 획일적인 사고방식을 강요한다. 저들의 사상은 결국 사회의 활력을 떨어뜨리고 발전을 저해하는 요인이 된다. (실제로, 중국과 북한의 경제 상황을 보면 쉽게 알 수 있다.)

                세 번째로, 공산주의, 사회주의는 모든 사람이 평등하게 잘 사는 사회를 건설할 수 있다고 주장한다. 그러나 성경은 모든 사람이 다 똑같을 수 없다고 말한다. 하나님은 각 사람에게 다양한 재능과 은사를 주셨다. 평등이란 결과의 평등이 아니라 기회의 평등을 의미한다. 흥미로운 부분은 공산주의, 사회주의가 결과의 평등을 추구하다 보니, 개인의 노력과 능력을 무시하는 경우가 너무 많다. 그러다 보니, 오히려 불평등을 낳는 결과가 생겼다. (지금도 중국과 북한에는 저들의 사상과는 달리 부패한 계급 사회, 뇌물이 만연한 사회로 존재한다.)

                마지막 네 번째로, 공산주의 사회주의는 유물론을 믿는다. 종교를 아편처럼 취급하기도 한다. 성경은 하나님의 창조론을 강조하며, 하나님의 형상과 모양대로 인간이 창조되었음을 강조한다. 성경은 인간의 삶의 목적이 하나님을 영화롭게 하며 이 땅에 예수 복음을 전하는 데 있다. 또한, 도덕적인 삶의 기준도 매우 높다. 그러나 공산주의, 사회주의는 신앙생활을 억압함으로 인간의 영적 갈망을 충족시키지 못하며, 도덕적인 삶의 기준도 매우 낮다. 그래서 거짓말을 밥 먹듯이 한다. 목적을 이루기 위해선 수단과 방법을 가리지 않는다. 불법을 해도 양심에 아무 거리낌이 없다.

                결론적으로 공산주의, 사회주의, 전체주의를 생각하며 이 땅에서 사는 것은 착각 속에 사는 것과 같다. 인간의 본성이 악하기에 이런 사상을 이루며 이 땅에서 살 수 없다. 인간의 존엄성을 무시하기에 이런 사상으로 살 수 없다. 착각 속에 살고 있는 자들이 우리 주변에 너무 많다. 안타깝다. 역사가 증명하고 있음을 잊지 말자!

                성경은 하나님을 섬기며 살 때, 우리의 자유, 우리의 생각이 비로써 건강한 삶이 됨을 강조하고 있다. 그리스도인들이여! 성경으로 돌아가자! 세상이 주는 착각 속에 빠지지 말고, 성경적 가치관으로 살 수 있도록 하나님께로 돌아가자!
