Problems of the Basic Act on Human Rights Policy and the Equality Act from a Biblical Perspective
The most violent spiritual storm in the constitutional history of the Republic of Korea is currently raging. Bills that have faced fierce resistance from believers for years under the name of the “Comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Act” are now knocking on the doors of the National Assembly, disguised under the deceptive masks of the “Basic Act on Human Rights Policy” or the “Equality Act.”
While their titles have become more subtle, the daggers hidden within them have grown even sharper. This is more than a mere issue of legislation; it is a declaration of spiritual war aimed at completely expelling the universal order established by God and biblical truths from the public sphere. We must coolly face the destructive consequences of this humanistic dogmatism through the lens of the Bible.
First, these bills fundamentally deny the “order of male and female,” which is the core principle of creation designed by God. Genesis 1:27 clearly states that God created mankind in His own image, and that He created them specifically as male and female.
However, the Equality Act and the Basic Act on Human Rights Policy currently under discussion attempt to elevate “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”—which individuals perceive subjectively—to the status of legal rights, transcending biological sex. This is an arrogant rebellion by the creation to modify the Creator's blueprint.
If a “third gender” gains legal status where the distinction between man and woman is collapsed, the definition of holy marriage and the lineage of families taught by the Bible will lose their ground for existence. We must not forget that opposing God’s providence of creation in the name of human rights is a path that ultimately leads humanity to its own destruction.
Second, hiding behind the pretext of protecting minority rights, these bills wield the blade of reverse discrimination, severely undermining the "freedom of faith" and the “mission to spread the Gospel” for the majority of Christians. Once these bills are passed, the criteria for “discrimination” or “harassment” will become extremely subjective.
Sermons declaring homosexuality as a sin according to biblical truth, education teaching biblical sexual ethics to children, and acts of defending identity within Christian institutions could all be regarded as “discrimination causing mental distress,” making them subject to legal sanctions and massive punitive damages. This is akin to a modern-day “Decree of King Darius” intended to silence the Gospel and confine faith within the walls of the church.
Even though the Gospel is an absolute truth that cannot compromise with the world, for the state to define truth as “hate” in the name of the law is a clear oppression of the Christian faith and the beginning of spiritual persecution. Furthermore, this is a clear violation of the true principle of separation of church and state.
Third, the Basic Act on Human Rights Policy contains a totalitarian danger that seeks to control the conscience and thoughts of the people by placing the state in a position higher than God. This bill seeks to legalize the National Action Plan (NAP) on human rights, aligning all administrative power of the state with an ideology centered on the Human Rights Commission.
This will become a tool for the state to prioritize its authority over parents' rights to educate their children, injecting distorted sexual values into the youth, neutralizing the founding principles of Christian private schools, and erasing the name of God from the public sphere. While the Bible commands us to “Train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6), this law will brand parents and educators who do not follow the state’s false standards of human rights as potential criminals. Any attempt by the state to monopolize the criteria of good and evil is nothing less than an attempt to usurp God’s sovereignty.
In conclusion, these bills currently before us are by no means for the sake of true equality. They are strategic maneuvers by the dark camp to imprison the truth, dismantle families, and defile the holiness of the church. We must expose the reality of these disguised "human rights" and protect the wall of truth with the determination of Esther, who said, “If I perish, I perish.”
Beyond a mere political victory, this must be a history of spiritual restoration where God’s justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. The time has come for all of us to fulfill our mission as watchmen, staying awake in prayer and united, so that the waves of false human rights do not cross the rock of holy truth.
